SCARE CROW

by: Julie Hockley

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Genre: Modern Romance

Date Completed: 04/10/14

  • Is it E-Book Boyfriend Material?
Yes, still is
  • Would I recommend this book?
Hell yeah!
  • Series Order
This is the 2nd book in a series. The first book is Crow’s Row.
  • Synopsis from Amazon:
Nineteen-year-old Emily Sheppard is losing her sanity. Ever since her mob king boyfriend, Cameron Hillard, abandoned her for her own good, Emmy has been attempting to move on with her charmed college student life as if nothing happened. Now rejected from the underworld and left grieving over Cameron’s alleged death, Emmy realizes she belongs nowhere. Worse yet, she is now keeping a dangerous secret.

After just a short time with Emily, Cameron has lost control over his world. As he miserably attempts to return to what is left of his life and unravel the mess he has made of the underworld, Emily’s hate turns to desperation. She needs to kill the kingpins responsible for Cameron’s death before they come looking for her. As Cameron secretly observes Emily, he has no idea of the danger he has placed her in—or that it may already be too late for him to save her.

Scare Crow is a tale of revenge, terror, and love as Emmy and Cameron embark on separate journeys to face enemies, correct past mistakes, and find their way to their destinies.
  • Overall Impression (Spoiler Free):
I waited years for this book and when I got it, I didn’t get up until I finished it. It’s like I was a crack head and this was my fix! Like I mentioned in my review of Crow’s Row, these characters just pulled me in. I think Hockley did an amazing job on this book and I know she worked her butt off on it. I would highly recommend this series.
  • SPOILER TIME…..LOOK AWAY NOW SO I DON’T RUIN IT FOR YOU
Okay, I waited for yeeeeeeears for this book hounding the author for a release date. I literally sat down at around 4:15pm and read it and finished around 11:00pm. I’m a very fast reader, so it’s not that it’s a short book by any means, I’m just a freak of nature. I loved Emmy’s fighting nature in this, determined to get revenge for her broken heart, and some of the moronic ideas she had about doing that. The ONLY thing that drove me insane is that their reunion didn’t happen until 98% complete. NINETY EIGHT PERCENT!!!! I was dying. I felt like I was reading New Moon in the Twilight series again. This is just a personal thing and nothing against the book. I just hate waiting for reunions for so long. I needed more love a lot sooner. I was left with a lot of questions at the end of the book so I’m very excited for the third book. I just pray that it isn’t three years away again. Hockley did an amazing job and I give this book huge props. I liked the first one better, but that doesn’t diminish the awesomeness of the book. Way to go Julie. I can’t wait to get some of those questions answered in the next book.

I’d love to find out what your thoughts are on a couple of the questions I have and have debated with my Mom about:

1 – Did Cameron sleep with Manny? Was his change of heart about sleeping with her or about going after the Mexican cartels? That wasn’t clear to me.

2 – So Shield is Daniel’s dad, not Bill, right?

Most of all, thank you Julie Hockley. I'm a working mom myself and I know how hard it is to juggle it all. I have a lot of respect for you and I love the way you write. I look forward to what is to come from you. I wish you the most!
